Indirect Cooling
Indirect cooling is the process of cooling in which no direct contact is made between process fluid being cooled and the chiller fluid through the use of 2 fluid circuits. Indirect cooling systems work by recirculating fluid from the first circuit along the outside of the second.
The two fluids flow through a two circuit heat exchanger in which the warmer, process fluid, is cooled by the cooler, chiller fluid. This allows protection of the chiller in processes with corrosive fluids. In the event of a leak, the corrosive fluid could enter the chilled fluid but not the refrigeration circuit which prevents costly damage.
